- modern modems strip out the start and stop bits and compress the data
- which boost throughput which is why you always set the baud rate higher
- then the modem actually is. on top of that you cant open a com port
- at 14400 anyway so you hafto set it at the next baud rate higher
- then the actual baud rate mininuum
