  24. modern modems strip out the start and stop bits and compress the data
  25. which boost throughput which is why you always set the baud rate higher
  26. then the modem actually is. on top of that you cant open a com port 
  27. at 14400 anyway so you hafto set it at the next baud rate higher
  28. then the actual baud rate mininuum
